The Greyfox - 1964 European 356C Originally sold by Porsche Dealer Rittersbacher in Kaiserslautern, the Greyfox spent almost 10 years in Germany before being imported into California at which time the second owner lightly used the car. After the owner’s marriage to an ex-military serviceman, they decided to start a family and his Corvette Grand Sport was promptly sold. The European 356C soon followed, being sold in 1982. Relocated to San Francisco the car was prepared for PCA Golden Gate Region Time Trials, arguably one of the most competitive of amateur events alongside SCCA and before the inception of the PCA Club Racing program. Over the years the car was never trailered to a single event and despite its “run what ya brung” style, garnered numerous trophies at competitions at Sears Point, Laguna Seca, Crows Landing and Riverside. Occasionally autocrossed, the car was never able to set fastest time of day but did trophy several times in both the men and women classes. In favor of the more powerful 911, The Greyfox was retired from track competition in about 1989 but remained in active street and autocross use, attending many Porsche Parade events in California, Nevada, and Oregon as well as numerous SF Bay local events – always being driven to and from. Due to changing life priorities, she regretfully fell into a state of un-use from 2011-2014 until transported east and freshened. While we have removed the race trim and safety equipment, the vehicle mechanically is configured the same today as it has been for over 30 years including many of the original European parts. A combination of new paint, 50+ years of patina, quality service and the accumulation of driving miles represents the “True Porsche Spirit” in the minds of its caretakers. The Greyfox remains part of the Apotheker Family Collection since 1982 and is the very car that started a Porsche Love Affair that is now three generations strong.
