This is my first Porsche. I am the second owner. I realized very quickly that my budget would only allow me to buy a 996, so I studied up on the model's well documented issues and decided, without any evidence, that I would only buy one from a dealer, where the dealer had placed the car on the PorscheUSA network. My thinking was, that if the dealer used the national network, the car must be in pretty good condition. Don't need customers complaining to the folks who hosted the website. Other constraints: my son is physically handicappped, so it had to be a cabriolet. Only way to get my son in the car would be to place him in it. Had to be a 6-speed, one owner, had to have a CarFax that showed majority of service was at Porsche dealer, had to have the dealer multi-point inspection report, receipts from any work the dealer did to get it ready to sell, and the price had to begin with a 2. In the course of a two-year search, only two cars met the criteria. Purchased sight unseen from Westmont Napleton Porsche in Jan. 2021 and had it shipped to Motorworks in Millerton, NY for the LN Engineering IMS retrofit and the development of a Needs list, nearly all of which has been done. Since I purchased it, I've learned lots more about the 996 and I am really glad I got the 2002 model with the glass rear window, the larger engine and the glove compartment. The radio has the Bose upgrade and it is a ghetto blaster! I put on Montell at the PCA get togethers and it gets a lot of stares. It has sport seats and console painted to match, which is gorgeous. It came with sport exhausts, which had rotted so these were replaced with Fister Sport (didn't want to shell out $3000+ for the replacements). I've since had lots of other work done to it. No expense has been spared. I drive it every day (except in the winter, when it is professionally stored), I have tracked it at Lime Rock and the Poconos, participated in AutoX and exhibited it at shows (have one award so far). I do some of my own work and it is easy to work on. It gives me great joy in my life.
