This 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is a wonderful piece of art and engineering. Unveiled in 2008, the 997.2 Porsche 911 marked a refined evolution of the iconic sports car, building upon the legacy of its predecessor while introducing notable enhancements in styling and engineering. Aesthetically, the 997.2 adopted a sleeker, more aggressive stance, with revised headlamp designs, enlarged air intakes, and a subtly reprofiled rear end. These subtle yet significant touches accentuated the 911's timeless silhouette, maintaining its unmistakable presence while breathing new life into its classic form. Beneath the sculpted exterior lays an array of mechanical advancements, further elevating the 911's driving experience. The standard 3.6-liter flat-six engine received a boost in power, now generating 345 horsepower from the factory, yielding a 0-60 time of about 4.7 seconds. Additionally, the 997.2 was the first year that featured direct fuel injection, increasing efficiency and reliability. This engine features 40% fewer parts than the 997.1. The 997.2 also introduced the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, a technological marvel that revolutionized gear changes. The PDK offered lightning-fast shifts, seamless transitions, and enhanced fuel efficiency, setting a new benchmark for performance transmissions. The 997.2 was the last 911 Porsche built before it was acquired by VW, making it the final independent Porsche. It was also the last 911 to use hydraulic steering (before the move to electric). In the lineage of Porsche 911s, the 997.2 stands as a pivotal chapter, bridging the gap between the analog charm of its predecessors and the digital advancements of its successors. It represents a harmonious blend of classic sports car aesthetics with cutting-edge engineering, solidifying its place as a true icon of automotive brilliance. This specific example, named Meg (short for Megalodon, due to the color), features a few desirable options including Turbo wheels from the factory (the first ones Porsche forged), the famed Sport Chrono package, heated/vented seats, and bi-xenon headlights. Meg, with a modified intake and exhaust, makes slightly more power (and a bit more noise) than stock. A 6-speed manual transmission puts that power to the wheels in an exhilarating and engaging manner. The owner drives this as his daily and you'll find it at Cars & Coffee, Porsche rallies, and various automotive events.
