My passion for Porsche started when I was 13 years old and my cousin purchased a silver 1998 986 Boxster. I distinctly remember many rides in that car, especially at night with the top down, screaming up and down the various highways in the Austin metro area where he lived. No matter whether you were the driver, or the passenger in that car, you felt like you were on top of the world. The wind in your hair, with that Flat 6 revving behind you - it was intoxicating. I knew I would have to own one someday, even though I couldn't legally drive a car yet. In the years that ensued, I worked my way through college, got hired as a software engineer at a large tech company just like my cousin (he has been a great inspiration to me over the years!), and married my lovely wife - All while I continued to save money away for my dream Porsche. Then, in 2019, at age 29 I knew I was ready. I started test driving Boxsters with various dealerships and private owners. I initially drove a 981, but found that I preferred the older 987 cars for their (in my opinion, of course) more mechanical and raw feel. I found this Midnight Blue/Sand Beige 987.2 Base 3 hours away from me in Long Island, New York, and jumped at the opportunity to purchase it. I remember being so impressed with the rich color combination and the fact that it was a 6 speed, which is difficult to find in the 987.2 generation as many were ordered with PDK. I drove out at 5AM and didn't come back until midnight, spending the whole day with the car - Driving it, getting a PPI done, and doing all the paperwork. All I can say is, it was totally worth the effort and then some! Not only did I achieve my dream, but the car has brought so many blessings into my life. I immensely enjoy working on it, improving it, and of course driving it. Interacting at social events with the greater PCA community has been a blast (I've met a ton of great people!), and I even managed to win my local concours' Boxster class the first time I showed the car! I hope to get involved in DE events this year (2023) to improve my driving skills even further.
